Earlier this week we ran our review of the new Bar Dupont fall cocktail menu. Our favorite was the Remember The Maine.
We asked Director of Bar and Beverage Jonathan Yeronick about the cocktail and he told a fascinating tale. The name of the drink is in reference to a coup by General Batista in Cuba in 1933. The name comes from the USS Maine, a ship that sank in the Havana harbor in 1898. That sinking led the saying, “Remember the Maine, the Hell with Spain.”
Remember the Maine (adaptation)
2 oz rye
3/4 oz sweet vermouth
2 bar-spoons cherry heering
1/2 bar-spoon absinthe
