Young Summer (Bobbie Allen) was kind enough to make us a little playlist to boost our Friday mood (frankly V. NECESSARY after the debate last night amirite?!); we may not be able to properly dance ‘n hug at the moment, but the below ten tracks are great for going to that same state in your mind. Check it out below, and be prepared to put her brand new track, “The Emperor” (which is officially out TODAY, and appears on the playlist) on ultra-heavy rotation, ’cause it slaps. And now, without further adieu, here’s Young Summer to take it away:

I love having playlists that I can put on and correct a mood, or just make you feel even better than you do, and that is what this little playlist can do!  All these songs thump along with a mid-tempo, and in a time where we aren’t allowed to hug anymore, I like to play these songs and fantasize about dancing in close proximity to my friends and hugging the shit out of them.

Niki & The Dove – Sister Brother Mother Father (Breezer Version)

I LOVE Niki & The Dove! They’re one of my favorite bands of all time. I saw them every time they played shows in Washington, D.C. (where I used to live).  I am constantly sending people an intro playlist to their music that I made because everyone should know and love them. This song is a great compliment to the original and is what a collaboration between Niki & The Dove and Empire Of The Sun might sound like.

Tame Impala – It Might Be Time

This is Kevin Parker sounding a little bit more industrial than he usual does and I looooove it. I absolutely love Tame Impala. He’s been a huge inspiration to me musically and in terms of just doing what you want.  Each of his records I have the most joyful memories tied to them. I got to see him perform at Hollywood Forever Cemetery in Los Angeles and it was one of my favorite shows of all time!

ThunderCat – Dragonball Durag

Thundercat is an inspiration! His creativity in all elements of songwriting and production is always so refreshing. This song is a perfect example of his perfection. I don’t feel like there’s anyone that comes close to what he’s doing.

4.Young Summer – The Emperor

A song that feels like a warm blanket but has an important message, that it doesn’t have to be this way. Meant to sneak up on you and make you feel something while you’re swaying to the beat.

Phoebe Bridgers – I Know The End

This song is freedom. The first time I ever heard it was while watching the video and at around 3:45 into the video I burst into tears. I don’t think anything has made me feel something so viscerally in a long time. It felt amazing! Thank God for Phoebe Bridgers. Her songwriting is legendary. It’s all just so perfect.

MGMT – Me and Michael

MGMT has this strange way of making everything feel instantly classic. All their songs are lodged in my brain forever upon first listen and I have no complaints. This one feels like the triumphant ending in an 80’s movie.

The 1975 – If You’re Too Shy (Let Me Know)

I mean, there’s a saxophone in this thing. The 1975 has gotten good at sneaking in the very under appreciated sax solo. They’re definitely one of my favorite bands.

Sharon Van Etta – No One’s Easy To Love

Sharon perfectly fuses strength and desperation in songs like no one else can, like I wish I could. This song is such a journey emotionally and sonically and one of my favorites. It feels devastating but is still kind of a bouncy grunge and I love every second.

Toro Y Moi – Freelance

This is a favorite and a song that you can put on ANY time. An evergreen jam.

Neil Young – Harvest Moon

This song has always been so comforting. It feels like a safe haven to curl up in, a reminder to take in the scenery and appreciate the immediate world around. A great reflective, joyful way to end the playlist.
