Tomorrow morning Live Nation and the Washington Nationals will have a press conference for, “a Major Concert Announcement.” The random capitalization is from them. Anyway, it’s just as fun to speculate big names playing at the home of the Nats as it is to see big name acts in a baseball stadium. Here are our best guesses for who will be announced to play SE this summer.
PJ celebrates 25 years this year. Yesterday they announced a substantial American tour. Two of the stops include two nights at Fenway Park in Boston and two nights at Wrigley Field in Chicago. Those are baseball stadiums. They did not announce a D.C. or Baltimore date. They did announce shows at Madison Square Garden in New York and Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia. One would think if they were playing Verizon Center, that would have been included in the announcement. So our guess is Nationals Park or no Pearl Jam in D.C. in 2016.
Dead and Company
The farewell shows the Grateful Dead played last summer at Soldier Field and Levi’s Stadium were a lie. Their long, strange trip will never end. Ever. They can’t cash in on a football stadium sized tour after last year but can easily sell out the Nats home on multiple nights.
Kanye is headlining this year’s Governor’s Ball. He’s the only act that could sell-out Nats Park that’s playing the annual NYC festival. And he has no other dates currently announced. And we really want this one to happen so we’re including it here even though it’s very unlikely.
The Voice judge has an upcoming winter stadium tour and summer festival headlining dates on the docket. And a third wedding. Weddings can cost a lot of money. Playing a few baseball stadiums over one summer can bankroll a lot of weddings.
The Piano Man already played Nats Park. There’s reason to believe he’ll do it again. As of this posting, Joel does not have a D.C. date for 2016. He does have concerts scheduled at ball parks in San Diego, Pittsburgh, Boston and Chicago. The guy likes playing baseball stadiums.
The massive pop star hasn’t toured America in a few years. She can’t sell-out football stadiums (Jay Z, Beyonce and Timberlake can and that’s why they’re not on this list) but can move between 30 and 40,000 tickets to fill Nats Park. And we want to see the left shark again.
