Where we have the interns comment on 6 songs that come up on random on the BYT office iPod playlist
Ashlyn, age 19
Kaylee, age 21
Emily, age 20
Morgan, age 20
1. “Career Opportunities” by The Clash from Sandinista! (this is the version with the kids singing it)
Ashlyn: Little tone-deaf British children are always cute.
Kaylee: I love everything about this.
Emily: Is this a bunch of little British kids? I thought it’d be annoying but I kind of like it?? It’s making me laugh.
Morgan:This reminds me of my father’s sister and her family. They all look identical and live in Oregon. They have buzz cuts and the same body shape. Their Christmas cards look like replicas of the same man in a tie-dye shirt, just different heights. I can imagine them all singing this together. End result: disturbed.
2. “Space Jam” by Quad City DJ’s from Space Jam Soundtrack
Kaylee: I watched Space Jam so often when I was a kid it was ridiculous. The nostalgia is killing me.
Emily: Awwwwww hellllllll yessssssss!!!!!
Morgan: MY CHILDHOOD and a weirdly sexual female rabbit playing basketball. Makes me want to hit myself in the head repeatedly or dance. Still deciding. ….Alright it needs to stop now.
3. “Arms Can Speak” by Ga’an from Black Equus
Ashlyn: I’m in suspense. Is this from an Alfred Hitchcock movie soundtrack? Hold on, now there’s moaning. Is she saying “collecting” or “Paul Enky?” Wait, are we still on the same song six minutes later?
Kaylee: This is definitely making me feel like I’m in a horror movie. Which is cool with me.
Emily: Wow, super ominous vibe. Was not expecting it to get that loud and intense, but I can dig it. A little longgggg tho….
Morgan: Makes me think this is what people heavily involved in musical theater sound like when they have sex.
4. “Heart Of The City (Ain’t No Love)” by Jay-Z from The Blueprint
Ashlyn: FINALLY a rap song I recognize! (This is Jay-Z, right?)
Kaylee: I’m always down for some HOV. This playlist is more fun than yesterdays.
Emily: Alrighhhhtttt this is a good jam. Jay-Z’s good (but he’s no Kanye).
Morgan: Makes me want to sing/hum/dance. Flashbacks to the Black Eyed Pea’s “Where is the Love,” less enthusiastic about that.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QePjIIBI-sI
5. “Mesh (12″ Version)” by New Order from Everything’s Gone Green
Ashlyn: The drum beat is pretty catchy. I like it.
Emily: Sounds like something I’d listen too in the fall, when it’s a little cold outside. I’d download it.
Morgan: I’m indifferent. That song was bland.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SxUw39VtxVc
6. “The Ballad of Lady Godiva” by King Khan & The Shrines from What Is?!
Ashlyn: There are a lot of metaphors in this song. It’s too repetitive for me.
Kaylee: Super cool… but now I’m suddenly craving chocolate?
Emily:Very chill. Reminded me that I’ve only had one cup of coffee today (but not really in a bad way). Was I the only one who heard those little things in the background?
Morgan: The song version of when someone looks attractive from 100 yards away, but disappoints up close.
