Mikkel Hess (the Dane behind Hess Is More) is an absolute musical genius, so when he reached out to me about the opportunity to premiere “Chopin Live In New York”, I was beyond stoked! The video (brilliantly shot) speaks for itself, but Mikkel was kind enough to provide us with a few contextual words to better understand what’s going on:

“To our surprise, the main character for this little film turned out to be a piece of music – created as a tribute to the late great composer Frédéric Chopin.

In celebration of our new album entitled “80 Years” we invited film makers Ben Fries and Alden Nusser to join us for a tightly packed weekend of music in New York.

We carried the tune “Chopin” around with us to some favorite spots in the city:

  • Friday afternoon “Chopin” was performed live at Red Bull Studios
  • Saturday afternoon the album vinyl version was played on air as part of our DJ set at The Lot Radio
  • Saturday evening it was performed live for our record release party at Mailroom NYC
  • Sunday afternoon it was performed live on WNYU radio’s The New Afternoon Show

You might say that it was an intense itinerary for such a young, inexperienced piece of music. But in fact, this piece has an old soul, as it quite heavily quotes from Chopin’s Prelude, Opus 28, no 6.

We hope you will enjoy the film and the music – and maybe you’ll feel inspired to come meet “Chopin” live in concert next week.”
