Nine years ago today (that’s right, 14-2-02) The Kills, my favorite musical twosome, played their first live show to kick off what continues be an incredible musical relationship that’s survived long distance, a marriage to Kate Moss and a Jack White collaboration. Four albums later (their latest, Blood Pressures, drops on April 5th) and they’re still going strong. The chemistry between VV and Hotel (otherwise known as Alison Mosshart and Jamie Hince to all you laymen) is best illustrated by the violent, slightly sadistic but absolutely raw video for the tune: “Last Day of Magic.” Call me crazy, but I think they’ve got a perfect relationship: Creative collaboration, oodles of sexual tension and the ability to understand that sometimes hand-to-hand combat is needed to resolve conflict. (Ignore the fact that the song is about breaking up and prepare to be wooed like I was)!
Happy Valentine’s Day. Oh and I’ll be seeing you all when The Kills play the 9:30 Club on April 24th, yeah? Dibs on splitting menthols with Alison!
