Tomorrow night, the doubly adorable/good time/sonically exploratory bill of RA RA RIOT and YELLOW OSTRICH is hitting 930 club. YAY!
Why we love RA RA RIOT? The Syracuse outfit needs no special DC introduction, as they’ve been putting smiles on everyone’s faces for years now with their sweet if lightly melodramatic songs and their top notch instrumentation, and things are showing no signs of changing. “So Dramatic” is one of the best pop tunes released lately.
Why we love YELLOW OSTRICH? Alex Schaaf’s MISTRESS (out now on Barsuk) has been rightfully compared to “a home-recorded Dirty Projectors (“Hold On”), a male equivalent to cut-and-paste artist Juana Molina (“Libraries”), a plugged-in Nick Drake (“I’ll Run”), and a fantastic mimic of Jack White (the rollicking, Get Behind Me Satan-esque coda of “Hate Me Soon”)” and shows the kind of love in playing with music while playing music that we don’t run into every day these days.
Why we love them together? Each band gave up a pair of spots on their guest list to give away to BYT readers. DOUBLE YAY.
To enter to win: let us know who would you like to see headlining at 930 club in the next few months (that has not been announced yet). But hurry–we’ll notify the winners by COB TODAY, so you have till 6pm.
