In typical D.C. fashion, the weather just went from sweating through your flannels to shivering in your parkas. If you’re like the rest of us, you’re wondering where our three days of fall went. It’s really hard to believe in global warming when its mid November and you’re wearing four layers of clothing at all times. With Thanksgiving right around the corner, we’re hoping there’s some truth to that rumor that being cold burns calories.

Make your television debut while working up an appetite. Good Morning Washington (ABC7) will be filming a segment on FIT4MOM Capitol Hill, so get up and get working as this class kicks off bright and early at 6 a.m. If the added screen time wasn’t incentive enough, there will be discounted coffee, breakfast and prizes.
Become one with nature while being surrounded by nature. American University’s rec center is leading a hike that will include some yoga poses along the way. And don’t give poison ivy a second thought, these yogi’s will be sticking to standing poses only. Get ready for a lot of warrior’s one, two, three and strike a tree pose while enclosed in trees.
5k(eg) anyone? Head out for a 3-5 mile run at your own pace and end at Hysteria Brewing Company for a nice brew on the house. In addition to the ales, food trucks will be on site. If you’re looking for a free beer to kick off the weekend, just run a quick 5 miles and it’s all yours.
The grand opening of the Canal Park Ice Rink will feature live music, a skating performance, a light display, concessions from neighborhood retailers and more. Just try not to wreck yourself.
Winter is officially coming as NGA opens its annual ice rink this Saturday. Participants will receive complimentary hot chocolate throughout the opening weekend. So dust off your skates, hat, and gloves and head on over. Or if ice skating isn’t your thing, grab some popcorn and enjoy the wonderful views of people falling all over the ice.
Both races will benefit the Organization for Autism Research. Enjoy the scenic route of the C & O canal as you race to get out of the cold. If you’re one of those people that only runs if someone is chasing you, fear not! Walkers are welcomed to attend as well. The race kicks off at 8 a.m. for the 10-miler and 8:30 a.m. for the 5k.
Go forth into nature!
