The closer we get to winter, the hotter the temperatures get. Maybe we are in an alternate universe, maybe we actually live in a city desert, or maybe this is just that climate change thing everyone has been talking about. Whatever it is, we hope you didn’t pack away your shorts and t-shirts for the season yet, because there’s still plenty of time to enjoy your week outside.

Spokes Etc. and New District Brewing are teaming up to bring a little fun to your hump day. Meet up at the Spokes Etc. Quaker Lane location in Alexandria for a fun and relaxing ride through the neighborhoods of New District. After the ride, head over to New District Brewing for some ice cold beer and receive special extended happy hour prices until 8:30pm.
Because you should never have to choose between a fun happy hour and hanging out with animals, head to the Panda Overlook at the zoo for happy hour between 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. Snacks, sangria, beer, wine, and select mix drinks will be available to purchase, with all proceeds going to save endangered species. So if you ever needed a better reason to get drunk and look at pandas, saving animals is a pretty good one.
Capitol River Cruises is celebrating the beginning of autumn right, with a cruise around the Potomac and $3 margarita specials. The hour long cruise will board from the boardwalk at exactly 8:45pm and will leave at 9:00pm. Enjoy some of the city’s most beautiful sights and don’t forget to stick around for the after party beginning at 10:00pm.
Probably the only thing better than drinking beer at The Yards Park is drinking beer at the Yards Park while watching very tiny dachshunds race. There will also be raffles with prizes, live music, and lots of food. Even if you don’t have a dachshund, you can still bring your pup for the all breed best-dressed contest. All race proceeds will go to the Humane Rescue Alliance, so make sure to show up on Saturday.
As the mild summer evenings dwindle down, make sure to enjoy one last Sunday at the Waterfront learning Kizomba, and Angolan dance taught by Octavio Jan. Whether you’re a pro or new to dancing, the Kizomba workshop will whip you into shape in no time. Purchase a $10 ticket, and head to Georgetown to learn some new moves and break out your old favorites this Sunday.
Go forth into nature!
