May is in full swing and you can no longer hide from the quickly approaching bikini season. The good news is D.C. has a boat load of awesome (and mostly free!) outdoor fitness classes and events. This week is DC Yoga Week and DC Bike Ride is on Sunday, so there’s no reason not to embrace the fitness. Throw your sneaks in your work bag, let’s do this.
Put those leggings to work and join the lululemon Run Club for a 4 – 6 mile loop around Arlington. Runners of all levels are welcome, and you can even leave your stuff at the store. Today might be the only dry day of the week, so get out there while its still sunny.
For those of you that actually like getting up before 8 in the morning, here is the yoga class for you. This 6:30 a.m. vinyasa flow helps to get you “energized for the day,” as if you actually needed it. Ugh, morning people.
“Want to go to a bar?” Don’t be fooled, there is no alcohol involved. Barre is that hot new class that your super fit friend has been convincing you to try for months now. Now offered outside, this free class uses ballerina-type exercises to that inspire you to get that coveted dancer’s body.
Step up your workout…literally. This class combines stepping with a bit of dancing and clapping for the ultimate super loud full-body work out. If you’re looking for a different kind of class to switch things up from your usual fitness routine, this is the way to go. Plus it will help you get your Fitbit steps to an all-time high.
If this week hasn’t kicked your ass by Friday, look into this boot camp. A perfect way to sweat out the week, this free bootcamp sesh at Canal Park will get your body into gear just in time to waste away your hard work on weekend binge drinking and jumbo slice.
Biking, beer, and nonprofits, could it get any better? New Belgium, yes the beer company, is sponsoring an an all-day event that will be sure to keep you entertained. It has everything from a fashion showdown, a game show, and of course some sweet brews.
Don’t forget to register for DC Bike Ride! It is 17 miles of car-free biking, and is a great way to see the city while getting some fresh air. Give Netflix and your couch a break, your bike could use some lovin’.
