I can’t function without breakfast. Within minutes of waking up, I absolutely must be eating something or I turn into a horrible grumpy morning monster. I also have to eat like actual food, I do not understand people who say things like, “Ah, I’m fine with just a banana for breakfast.” How? How do you do that?
Anyways, so when I heard that JRINK was going to start serving actual food (or as close to actual food as a place called JRINK gets) in the form of smoothie bowls, I made my way over to their Foggy Bottom store to give them a try.
I like juice, I like fancy juice. I once paid $15 for a glass of cold-pressed fancy juice when I lived in New York City (it was life changing and by life changing I mean forced me to take a good hard look at my life and choices because that is just ridiculous), but I always kind of wish that juice places sold more than just… juice.
Smoothie bowls are kind of just that… smoothies… put into bowls and then topped with things like granola to make them a little more substantial. JRINK just started serving two flavors, the more photogenic one is their Ocean Blue bowl- consisting of a special algae (it’s a thing that exists!) called Blue Majik, fresh fruit and almonds, all blended together and topped with strawberries, cacao nibs, coconut chips and toasted oats.
I enjoyed their other bowl, made with the chocolatey superfood Acai but topped with the same toppings, it might not be anywhere near as pretty but it was refreshing and filling.
JRINK’s new smoothie bowls will be an icy, excellent, treat yourself to something healthy, summer breakfast. Also I feel like it would be great for hangovers, considering you can also hold the cup up to your head to calm that pounding headache (possibly speaking from personal experience).
JRINK’s smoothie bowls are only currently offered at their Foggy Bottom location.
