Ramen! Dumplings! Cocktails! Dumplings IN cocktails! Believe it or not, these are all things available on the Asian-inspired menu at Chaplin.

First and foremost, let’s address the dumpling cocktails. There is the whisky a-go-go, the blood & sand which also has whisky, and the old gin, with pimms and gin. Each one has a succulent dumpling inside, infused with the heady flavors of your boozy beverage. It sounds bizarre, but you know you want one.

The dumplings are also available sans the cocktails. The veggie dumpling is one of the best; with scallions, greens, garlic, and a hint of heat. Along with your dumplings order the pickled fruit salad and the papaya salad. The fruit salad has bright, tart flavors and the papaya salad is sweet and gingery, served in a pretty green butter lettuce cups. Next on the agenda is ramen: the porcini mushroom ramen is for mushroom-lovers only, but anyone will enjoy the shanghaied, with fried tofu, greens, and pickled ginger in a savory dashi broth.

Now let’s move on to what Chaplin will really be known for: the cocktails, devised by the most popular duo in town, brothers Ari and Micah Wilder.

The drink list has something on it for everyone; but if you need a suggestion try the gold rush, with peach liquor, amaro, and Spanish sparkling wine. It is as pretty as it is tasty. The vagabond, with cucumber, gin, ginger beer, and mint is summery and refreshing, as is the pina colada-esq sunny side, made with coconut rum, pressed pineapple, lime, and orange curaceo.

You may think you have had everything the menu has to offer but Chaplin saves the best for last: The adult root beer float. The rum + root beer + vanilla ice cream concoction gives you a wistful glimpse into your childhood, while reminding you of the undeniable perks of adulthood.
