Wherever you are, we want to see you DANCE! This National Dance Day, we’re moving online but we won’t stop moving. Presented in partnership with the Kennedy Center, American Dance Movement, and Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC), National Dance Day celebrates the joy of dance and movement for its 11th exciting year.

Saturday, September 19, tune in for FREE online workshops and interactive activities from dance organizations in our own backyard, representing all 8 wards in D.C.! These resilient organizations have offered classes and virtual programs throughout COVID-19 to keep us healthy and moving—and now YOU can move with them, too!

11-11:45 a.m.: (Ward 8)
The Washington School of Ballet’s SE Campus teaches a Beginner Ballet class geared especially for ages 8-10 but open to all ages and abilities. Grab your barre, a chair, or counter top that comes to waist level to join!
12-12:45 p.m.: (Ward 3)
City Dance POP! provides two 20-minute classes and two chances to learn different movements! Learn choreography from a music video in the “Sippin” series where iconic dances are broken down or enjoy a jazz class.
1-1:45 p.m.: (Ward 1)
Dance Institute of Washington offers a contemporary dance to Michael Bublé’s “Feelin Good.” Originally choreographed for one of DIW’s students who performed it at the Black Lives Matter Plaza this summer, DIW now teaches the routine for you to learn! This choreography explores a message of resistance in the spirit of the Black Lives Matter movement and of hope for a better, more equitable, and more inclusive future.
2-2:45 p.m.: (Ward 6)
DivaDance DC provides a sweaty, stress-free dance environment for adults to gain confidence and build community through choreographed dance classes. Slay your cardio (while having fun!) to Beyoncé’s “Crazy In Love.”
3-3:45 p.m.: (Ward 7)
Northeast Performing Arts Group offers a lively jazz class taught by Arrington “AJay” Lassiter. The award-winning, culturally-based arts and education program develops and fosters the creative talents of youth living in the Northeast/Southeast corridors of Washington, D.C. through performing and visual arts.
4-4:45 p.m.: (Ward 5)
Dance Place brings an all-levels Afrobeats class taught by Dache Green. Dache’s Afrobeats class combines African, hip hop, and contemporary movements for the whole family. Class will include fun rhythmic changes, athletic movements, and provide dancers with freedom to interpret and express including minimal improvisation.
5-5:45 p.m.: (Ward 4)
Dance Loft on 14 teaches two classes: a Re-Disco class and a Deep House Urban Contemporary class incorporating aspects of African Diaspora dance, principles of modern dance, syncopation, floor work, and footwork.
6-6:45 p.m.: (Ward 2)
Join the Kennedy Center to learn the official National Dance Day routine from American Dance Movement! Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton will give a short virtual welcome.

Maren Morris is one of the leading voices in country music today—armed with incredible vocal stylings that reflect her country, folk and pop influences, sheer talent, honest lyrics and a strong presence. Morris’ latest album GIRL, released in March 2019 via Columbia Nashville, was named Album of the Year at the 53rd Annual Country Music Association Awards, where Morris was the most nominated artist. The album shattered the record for the largest ever debut streaming week for a country album by a woman with 23.96 million streams and debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Top Country Albums chart and No. 4 on the Billboard 200. Single “The Bones” has just become the first multi-week country radio No. 1 from a woman since 2012. GIRL also features the history-making title track “GIRL” which had the highest debut on Billboard’s Country Streaming Songs chart by a female artist, the highest weekly streams by a female country artist ever and also topped country radio. GIRL comes three years after Morris’ breakout, Gold-certified debut album Hero and explores how her life has changed since then—a skyrocketing career, falling in love, becoming engaged and then married—and the highs and lows in between. She won a Grammy Award for Best Country Solo Performance at the 59th Grammy Awards, was named New Artist of the Year at the 50th Annual CMA Awards, Top Country Female Artist at the 2018 Billboard Music Awards and New Female Vocalist of the Year at the 52nd Academy of Country Music Awards.
