We asked some of our favorite musicians to give us lists of their favorite songs for summertime, and our third installment comes from Yukon Blonde! Featured tracks come from Haim, The Cure, Pet Shop Boys and MORE, so fill your ears with all of the summery goodness, and then be sure to 1. grab a copy of the band’s new record On Blonde, out now via Dine Alone, 2. watch the video for “Saturday Night” HERE and 3. follow YB on Facebook and Twitter for all the latest news. HERE WE GO:

Djavan- Bird Of Paradise

Djavan is a Brazillian artist, perhaps not so well known? This song in particular is from 1988, not really sure how we stumbled upon this one, as its such a strange and obscure song, but became an instant summer classic the more we listened to it.

The Cure- Friday I’m In Love

My friend actually made me a summer “burnt compact disc” mix back in high school with this song on it. So for that reason only it was the first to come to mind when making this mixtape.

Haim- If I Could Change Your Mind

I remember seeing this album cover on massive billboards inside The Tube in London a few years back and reminding myself to check them out.  I think this band will be around for many years to come if they continue to write hits such as this one.  (Also an extremely great live act, I recommend you see them if you get the chance!)

Gerry Rafferty- Right Down The Line

This was on constant rotation last summer while writing and recording our record.  We rented a small cabin on Galiano Island ( A remote Island about an hour ferry from Vancouver, Canada) where we hashed out demos of new songs and every evening we would BBQ on the beach to this track. When I hear this song I instantly think of sunsets at that cabin.

Taylor Swift – Style

On our last US tour we couldn’t escape this song on the radio if we tried.  It haunted us, followed us, and taunted us, until finally we all gave into the Swift and started loving this song.  Absolutely love the verse into the pre-chorus bits, truly brilliant songwriting.

10CC- I’m Not In Love

Pretty much defines “Yacht Rock” so we had to add this to the Summer Mixtape.  Huge selling feature on this track are the haunting background vocals doing the bah da bahh da bahhh bahhhh. Chills race through the spine when those come in!

Pet Shop Boys- Always On My Mind

As Im sure you’re aware this is a cover tune, made famous by Elvis in the 70’s and then Willie Nelson made it a Billboard classic in 1982.  However this version from 87′ tops my charts, not only did they completely reinvent the song,  they made it a Synthpop/ Euro Disco classic!

The Lemonheads- Its a Shame About Ray

I found this record when I was really young, probably 10 or 11, became a massive fan of Evan Dando, his song writing is impeccable and timeless.  Sure this album is extremely 90’s but I can still put it on and fully appreciate everything about it.

D’Angelo and The Vanguard- Sugah Daddy

This has been a very recent add to the band playlist. We’ve had his 2014 release “Black Messiah” on constant rotation while touring lately, and “Sugah Daddy” has been the stand out track for us. The bass line and harmonies are incredible, he’s an inspiring guy being a multi-instrumentalist, producer and songwriter.

Jay Ferguson- Thunder Island

This song is actually my current ringtone, its so cheesy yet such great vibes, I figured I’d pick up the phone more with this as a ringtone.  Instead it actually freaks the shit of me, especially early in the mornings, but it continues to be my ultimate summer jam! Thank you Jay for writing this one.
