When “Nike Boots” first dropped, I got it like many others on iTunes as a Free Single of the Week. And then my mind was blown. A DC rapper getting national recognition, and plenty of hate (read ANY comment section when the single came out), Wale stayed true to the DMV. From name dropping PG County and Capital Heights, to saying “Nobody rep for the skins / They busy cheering them stars,” he described the area pretty damn well.
Sure, I may have grown up in the ‘burbs, but having a rapper love his area like E-40 does for the Bay and Yeezy does for Chicago felt great. Kendrick may drop bombs on the rap game, but Wale’s still flyer than the rest of ’em, and you’re damn sure his set at Trillectro will be incredible.
