ANXO Cider has a great series called Foraged Friday, which is basically what it sounds like; foraged ingredients are showcased in a three-course dinner menu, and it’s PRETTY SPECIAL! (As a mushroom and all things foraged fanatic, you can see why I would be very excited by this concept.)
Here’s what’s on deck for tomorrow’s $38 dinner, which is available for pick-up and dine-in at the Kennedy St location and pick-up only at the Florida Ave location:
1st Course
Maitake Miso Soup (Vegetarian, Gluten Free)
Foraged Hen of the Woods Mushrooms, Onions, Purple Daikon Radish, Japanese Turnips, White Rose Benne Miso, Keepwell Chanterelle Vinegar, Crispy Maitake Chips
2nd Course
Chicken of the Woods Curry (Vegetarian, Can be Gluten Free)
Foraged Chicken of the Woods Mushrooms, Roasted Delicata Squash, Tomato, Onion, Garlic, Coconut Milk, Cilantro, Lime & Rice
3rd Course
Beef Tenderloin (Gluten Free, Can be Vegetarian w/ Acorn Squash Substitute)
Served with Horseradish Mashed Potatoes, Hedgehog Mushrooms & Mushroom Gravy
You can also add on foraged appetizers, desserts and other treats (maitake sourdough focaccia, honey mushroom bombas, etc.), but what we’re (or at least I am) mainly here to talk about are THE FORAGED COCKTAILS.
The Scary Spice has bourbon, apple brandy, foraged DC crabapples, lemon and pumpkin spice, while the Under My Chanterella is a mushroom negroni made with foraged chanterelle and black trumpet mushrooms. (See also: VERY INTERESTING, SLASH GIVE ME ONE NOW, PLEASE.) Both clock in at $12 per 8oz cocktail, which feels v. reasonable considering the ingredients and the V. FUN PACKAGING.
Basically, if you’ve been getting bored of the more traditional takeout or socially distanced dine-in options, this is THE ONE. And even if you’re more into DIY vibes, they’re also offering foraged maitakes and chicken of the woods for $10 per 8oz until Saturday. SO COOL, I CANNOT.
