You might not be getting paid today, but local restaurants and bars want nothing more than to shower you in cheap / free food and cheap / free drinks. It’s not a bad tradeoff.

Buredo – I’m still very wary of the fusion monster that is the sushi burrito, but if you have fewer qualms than me, Buredo is offering a 15% discount on in store purchases if you bring your federal ID.
Carmine’s – Heading out for a midday lunch after spending your morning sleeping in and watching Netflix (I assume this is what everyone is doing, it’s what I’d be doing)? Head to Carmine’s where they’ll slip you an extra jumbo meatball for free.

Think Food Group – Make your way to Jaleo, Zaytinya, Oyamel or China Chilcano for a free sandwich between 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. this week. We say this all the time, but José is truly one of our favorite people.
Z-Burger Tenleytown – One of the best food deals you can get, the Z-Burger in Tenleytown is offering a free burger to anyone with a government idea. Be sure to grab a shake too, they’re pretty solid.
Bourbon – Get your fill of classic boozy cocktails with Bourbon’s shutdown special. While the furlough is going on, you can grab $10 Manhattans, Old Fashioneds and Sazeracs all night.
Cafe Berliner – You’re an overachiever aren’t you? You don’t just want to get day drunk, that’s not your style. You want to get day obliterated and boy do I know the place. Hit up Cafe Berliner where you can get a full liter of beer for $10 until the shutdown is over.
Capitol Lounge – Get ready for a cocktail menu full of jokes. Capitol Lounge has a new menu of shutdown themed drinks and if you have a federal employee idea, you can get them for the low price of $5 everyday of the shutdown. I’d personally go for the C’Mon Chuck (Woodchuck Cider + Fireball) or the Affordable Beer Act (Natty Boh + Montezuma Blue Tequila), keep it simple.
