To understand why anyone would go on a cruise built entirely around bands like Limp Bizkit, Filter, Buckcherry and the like, one need only find something they truly love. Anything can be simplified. The cruise I went on is called ShipRocked. In the simplest of terms it’s ROCK N’ ROLL. You don’t have to enjoy this music to enjoy this cruise, though that helps. The magic that keeps this particular ship afloat is the community. These people are brought together by a common cause, and if that cause isn’t your own it quickly becomes evident that it doesn’t matter.
It’s like baseball season is starting, summer camp is back in session, or if you’re me…The Maryland Renaissance Festival is in full swing. These people aren’t outcasts. They are a member of a club whose only prerequisite to join is the desire to be a part of something. The feeling of camaraderie is inescapably infectious and whether or not you’re looking forward to hearing Rollin one more time is irrelevant.
Would I go on the ShipRocked Cruise again? Yes. Absolutely. Every greeting was met with a smile. Every person was in high spirits (pun intended on occasion) and everyone is welcoming. Where else in your every day life can you find that? And never discount the joy of being swept up in nostalgia. RIP high school. Nothing is perfect but I wouldn’t mind having endless access to a free buffet (CHOCOLATE FOUNTAIN EVERY NIGHT), a gym overlooking the ocean, and the sweet sweet hope that Filter will play Hey Man Nice Shot before we run out of beers in our Bucket Of Beers.
