S. J. Ewing & Dancers presented their new work, “Gallery,” on October 3 at Source Theatre as part of CulturalDC’s 20th Anniversary Season. Choreographed by Sarah Ewing in collaboration with the dance artists, the new show questions the complexities and tensions between our internal desires and society’s expectations of women.
Performed by six female dancers, “Gallery” is dedicated to the empowerment, fear, strength, resilience and vulnerability of women. The movements are set to an exciting score of house music. Ewing explained that the dancers push their bodies to their physical limits as the piece explores how bones, muscles and cells could be the instigators of our movements, tapping into an internal place that is normally ignored, and using that as the framework for the piece.
