The Phillips Collection annual Contemporaries Bash always sells out. The themed party/fundraiser gives art lovers 21 and up a chance to wear nice clothes and take nice photos. Last year’s Dreaming of Doha featured large silk fabric and fans that led to many Phillips fans changing their Facebook photo to something shot at the Contemporaries Bash. This year’s Berlin Underground featured large projections of manipulated art that led to many Phillips fans adding to their Instagram feed.

In addition to the projected art, Berlin Underground featured slabs of concrete art, hula hoopers, a photo booth (it’s D.C. law to have a photo booth with an extremely long line at every Dock 5 event), open bars and a barely touched bratwurst buffet. It seems that people in finer clothes do not enjoy sauerkraut. Sauerkraut is great and tastes just as good whether you’re wearing couture or a t-shirt.

The Phillips Contemporaries program is meant for young professionals ages 25 through 40. The Contemporaries Membership is the museum’s attempt at bringing in younger members. Based on the annual Bash, they’re doing a fine job.
