If I didn’t attend the fall 2017 edition of NKOTB, it’s unlikely I would have ever tried the food from the Museum of the Bible. Did you know Todd Gray’s Manna will be in the soon to open Museum of the Bible? It’ll be interesting to see how the vegan offerings do in the Museum of the Bible.

That’s the beauty of the NKOTB events. It’s small enough to sample everything and find new favorites. It’s also fun to pontificate about future restaurants successes and failings. Will Museum of the Bible patrons love Manna? Is Erik Bruner Yang’s upcoming Spoken English bring people in to The Line Hotel? Both offerings were quite good, but something about meat and fire makes us think Spoken English is the better bet.

The best food we tried was the burger and bindaas. The Lucky Buns burger was not the most complicated offering but it was the most satisfying. It’s easy to make a burger but it’s difficult to make a burger stand out at an event featuring 10 of the other most anticipated restaurants. Opening soon in the old L’Enfant Cafe space, we’re now most excited for something that’s not too hard to find: burgers.

Did bindaas belong at this event*? The Cleveland Park restaurant already exists? It’s been open for over a year? Who cares? The lamb kathi roll was the best thing we ate at the event. It’s also one of the easiest bites at an event that offers a cocktail with every plate. It may not have been the most appealing plate but it was the most satisfying. I will go back to Cleveland Park for this not-exactly-a-sandwich-not-really-a-wrap-elevated-street-food.

Of all the concepts that might appeal to our readers, Coconut Club by Chef Adam Greenberg tops the list. Tiki bars are great and a tiki bar by Chopped champ Adam Greenberg next to Dolcezza Factory sounds right up our alley.

This twice a year event is one of our favorites. We’ve been to each addition and its determined our future coverage. The last edition is no different. We’ll be back next spring looking forward to the next one.

*Bindaas was included because a second location is opening soon in Foggy Bottom.
