I’m just going to come straight out and say it. I flipping love Spring. All my favorite things come back around this time of year: sunshine with actual warmth, baseball, girls in dresses, green plants… After last weekend, my list is growing by one more event – Little Miss Whiskey’s Crawfish Boils. The H St. bar hosts six boils each year; with only 50 tickets available for each, they always sell out super quickly.
Here’s the deal: Little Miss Whiskey’s hosts six crawfish boils a year; for each event, the bar flies up fresh, never frozen crawfish the morning of each boil. Tickets are $48-$53 and include all-you-can-eat crawfish, corn, potatoes, and Cajun sausage and all-you-can-drink keg beer from whichever brewery they’re partnering with that day. Each brewery presents one high octane brew and one lighter option, with reps and owners from each brewery on hand for their prospective dates. The events kick off at 2:30 pm, and run until the crawfish are picked and the kegs are kicked.
BYT was lucky enough to be invited to the first boil of 2016, featuring DC Brau. This one was extra special, as it was also celebrating DC Brau’s first-ever public preview five years ago – the very first time anyone ever drank a DC Brau beer was at the very first crawfish boil back in 2011. The brewery brought over a keg of their Brau Pils, but the real ass-kicker was their Imperial IPA, On the Wings of Armageddon. It was a great pair with the spice and slick of the boil; then I tried to stand up to grab more, wobbled, and remembered it was a 9.2% monster. Even with all that booze, it’s still a world-class IPA.
There’s not a lot to say about these events, honestly. If you like back yard garden parties with huge pots of fresh deliciousness and tasty beers, this is a probably an event for you.
Per Little Miss Whiskey’s, here’s the rest of the crawfish boil schedule, even though they’re all, you know, sold out. Sorry:
