For the third year in a row Union Market, James Beard Foundation & Good Food Awards joined forces in hosting a Sunday Supper at their Dock 5 to help fund a grant to support entrepreneurial women restaurateurs (and give DC food fans a chance to eat some truly spectacular dishes by some of the region’s best chefs).
The (gorgeous) evening started out with a cocktail hour featuring punches by Derek Brown, Rappahannock oysters and Bev Eggleston’s fine charcuterie, only to then proceed into a three course meal (served family style) featuring such stand out dishes as Woodberry Kitchen’s Spike Gjerde’s fried chicken, Jose Garces’ seafood and more from Nick Stefanelli of Bibiana, John Mooney of Bidwell and Bell, Book and Candle, Jeremiah Langhorne formerly of McCrady’s and hopefully with a DC project of his own (we’ve been counting the days), Emily Luchetti of San Francisco’s Farallon and Edens’ own Richie Brandenburg.
The dessert selection came courtesy of Robb Duncan & Dolcezza, Chef Art Smith, Co Co Sala and Aggie Chin of Palena. To say we were dizzy with deliciousness is probably a pretty accurate recap of the final feelings about the evening. The fact that every guest got to take home one of the best cook books in the country as a special party favor was a great bonus.
And now, for a gorgeous photo essay of what the evening was like:
