Would you like to see some class A DC public art created LIVE? Well, you’re in luck because one of BYT’s favorite DC artists, Kelly Towles  is helming the murals aspect of Art Yards DC, a public arts project in which a six story, former NGA building on the SE Waterfront will be completely transformed over the course of the next month (and then demolished sometime between December and March).
Kelly sought out Jasper Wong (a Hawaii-based artist), and DabsMyla (an LA-based Australian duo) for the project, and they’ll cover three walls of the building with their individual murals. It’s the largest mural project to date for all artists involved, which is saying something.
The building is located at The Yards, at the corner of First and M St on the SE Waterfront. Starting TONIGHT, the artists will be on site daily until Thanksgiving.
Here is a schedule to keep on file:
11/14: Jasper Wong will outline his mural in the evening, with projection by Bell Visuals.
11/15: Kelly Towles will outline his mural in the evening, with projection by Bell Visuals.
11/19: last day on-site for Jasper Wong.
11/20: the official kick-off of Art Yards, with a “Pour Mural” being created by Kelly Towles – 111 gallons of Sherwin Williams paint will be poured over the side of the wall, creating a free-form artwork.
