Over the weekend there was a march and vigil demanding justice for Vanessa Guillén, the 20 year old Army Specialist who was brutally murdered at Fort Hood; the atrocity occurred after she revealed to her family that she had been experiencing sexual harassment from an unnamed colleague, assuring them she could handle the situation herself.
Now, there’s an outcry around the world demanding justice, answers, and major reforms within the military to eradicate sexual harassment and assault. We’ve seen this publicly with the many demonstrations that have taken place, including DC’s own outpouring this weekend.
What began as a march ended as a vigil at a new mural honoring Guillén in Columbia Heights. It was a powerful and emotional series of events, and one we’ll not forget. Below you’ll find some photos from the day of remembrance and action:
