Wings-and-songs, a hike through Rock Creek Park featuring birdwatching and classical music, was the first of many events of the SHIFT festival. Dave Sutherland, a naturalist from Boulder, CO,  played excerpts from composers like Saint-Saens and Beethoven, highlighting the influences of various bird calls on their music. Sutherland encouraged hikers to get in touch with their creative side by asking them to use the sounds of the forest to inspire their own sonatas. This event was able to engage the curiosity of children as well as provide a nice escape from rush hour DC for adults Be sure to check out the rest of this weeks events which will continue to highlight the beautiful relationship between music and nature.
