This past Thursday Flashpoint opened their new exhibit entitled “M3: MCs, Mics and Metaphors”. Needless to say, there was a party and we went.
The exhibit itself, curated by Tewodross Melchishua, is mainly concerned with exploring the lyricism and energy of hip-hop through all different forms of visual (and audio) media.
The artists featured in the show (full list available here) ranged from well known local faces like the Dissident display boys who delivered a video piece to Carmen Walker from Project Runway who did a deconstructed one-of-a-kind jacket to Ann “Sole Sister” Johnson who did paper casts of iconic hip hop objects.
The show is there to serve as a dialogue starter of sorts (even the opening party featured an impromptu freestyle session among attendees and artists), and we highly recommend stopping by the Artist talk & Live Performances on August 8th.
