For seven years now, Michael Aranella and his Dreamland Orchestra transport their ready and willing throwback fans to an enchanted lawn on Governor’s island where suspenders and dropped waists are king, and wearing 8 different kinds of beading in broad daylight gets you a pat on the back and not a slightly worried look on the train. Think of it as Seersucker Social, but on steroids. This past weekend, over 3000 people showed up, learned how to Charleston, enjoyed bathing beauties parades and swooned to the Dreamland follies, lounged and picnic-ed, enjoyed cocktails by St. Germain and beer courtesy of Brooklyn Brewery, and exchanged notes on boater hats, feather fans and vintage maillots.
