This past Thursday, ReadySetDC hosted their second seasonal fashion:district event (check out photos from the first one here), envisioned as a combination of retail and catwalk, done in an accessible way and celebrating the style creativity of our fair city. Nothing but good intentions, beaming smiles, stylish guests in stylish glasses, good local music (anchored by Bluebrain and Matthew Hemerlein) and many, many photographers to document it all.
This season’s runway show and pop-up shop participants included; ARTAYA, De*Nada Design, Derringer Friday, Durkl, Ginger Root Design, Mercedes Bien Vintage, Rue 14, Toucan and Treasury…and while it is fantastic to see people like ReadySetDC work so hard at spotlighting fashion in the district, and everyone participating (deservedly) looked and seemed happy and proud to be there, pushing the off-the-rack clothes from local boutiques (which we love, love, love) into the context of a (high-end aspirational) runway show does seem a little forced, especially when some of the most memorable outfits from it are reworked and restyled vintage garments (adorable as they may be).
Having said that: congratulations to ReadySet crew for a Thursday night filled with creative, young people, to the designers and retailers involved and we look forward to seeing this project evolving, motivating more designers to show their clothes and surprises of what happens next time in the fashion:district:
Now, lets enjoy the photos.
