DC Eurovision fans have it good. Thanks to living in the city of power, they’re able to watch one of the most popular worldwide television events at various embassy viewing parties. Previously held at the Swedish and Austrian embassies, this year, in honor of the event being held in Copenhagen, the Danish Embassy’s Eurovision viewing party on Saturday came with beer, wine, barbecued pork and a rain shower. The garden party started with the expectant crowd huddled under tarps with their Tuborg beers. Attesting to the growing popularity of the contest, the event was sold out a few days in advance. Austria’s Conchita Wurst won the contest to cheers and only a couple of boos and there were sighs of disappointment over Sweden’s Sanna Nielsen coming in third.
