Just in time for the holiday entertaining and gift giving, a great new store is set to open in DC. Amanda McClements, who you may know as a DC food writer about town and founder of Metrocurean is set to open the doors of her first retail effort Salt & Sundry at Union Market in just a few weeeks.


This past weekend, she hosted a 3 day long pop-up to offer us and the rest of DC’s budding hosts and hostesses a sneak peek at what to expect in there permanently and considering that the female portion of the BYT editorial team found it hard to leave the premises, let alone stop constantly touching the goods on the shelves, we think it is safe to say you’re all in for a treat and a new favorite retail stop.


Just like McClements herself, the store is a fine mix between warm Southern Americana (all the farmhouse tables in store were handcrafted by her Father!) and urban but bohemian flair: a place that makes looking polished seem easy.

Some of the highlights we wanted to drop into our purses ASAP included a great ceramic selection from Cloud Terre, great books on quality drinking, small batch goodness from local favorites like Gordy’s Pickles, Big Spoon Roasters, paper place setting pads, antler stirrers and oh-so-much more.


Proving that she is the kind of person the right kind of people want to party with too, McClements also featured punches by St. Germain and Pernod Absinthe for her shoppers and Tiffany MacIsaac showed up with a preview of the doughnut portion of NRG’s upcoming chicken-and-doughnuts restaurant GBD. Did we mention we were pretty much ready to move in?
