In its 32-year history, the Annual Choreographers’ Showcase has given audiences a sneak peek at the work of numerous artists who go on to become mainstays of the D.C. dance scene. Washington Post called it “something of a rite of passage in the Washington area dance community.” The annual event is open to any modern work by artists in the DMV area. Originally focusing on modern dance, organizer Christel Stevens has opened the showcase to other forms of dance. The selections are usually done by judges from out of town and this year the adjudicators were Zvi Gotheiner and Keith A. Thompson.
Presented in collaboration with The Clarice Smith Performing Arts Center and the Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission, the showcase featured 7 distinct choreographic works in a range of styles.
