DC’s cocktail making (and drinking) heavy weights came together for DC Craft Bartenders Guild’s annual Repeal Day Ball at the Hill Center. According to RepealDay.Org, we celebrate this day as “a return to the rich traditions of craft fermentation and distillation, the legitimacy of the American bartender as a contributor to the culinary arts, and the responsible enjoyment of alcohol as a sacred social custom” and the night did not disappoint (on the contrary). The mood was festive and the vibe was reminiscent of a prohibition area speakeasy.  Many were dressed as flappers and gangsters going room to room sampling the various elegant elixirs that DC’s best bartenders had to offer.  Mockingbird Hill’s Chantal Tseng was serving up her special in a true-to-life bathtub (just as I imagine our prohibition forefathers would have). Duane Sylvester and Jaime McBain of Bourbon Steak had their miniature distiller along side them as they served up some bourbon. In one room folks were swing dancing along to live music, and throughout the house people of all ages, young and distinguished, partied like it was 1933.
