We began the Dream Jukebox series in 2015. I picked 50 albums perfect for a 100 CD jukebox and had 50 artists and writers I like pick 50 albums. We published entries 00-49 of Volume 2. Petal continues entries 50-99.
51 Petal Magic Gone
The music video is what made me listen to “Better Than You” multiple times. Yes, I realize people won’t be able to see the video when the single is played on the jukebox but the song is a catchy, slightly under 3 minutes fuzzy mid tempo pop song about dark things that sound bright. It’s the kind of song that you’ll hear on your first beer and play again on your third because you’ll have that riff in your head. This is what happens with The Thermals records too.
The record isn’t all poppy, fuzzy songs. There are also some quiet songs you’ll prefer to hear on your headphones on your walk home. But “Better Than You,” that’s the one I’m playing in the bar and after you ask me, “Hey, what’s this?,” I show you the video.

53 Death Cab For Cutie Transatlanatacism
I heard that record for the first time when I was 13-years-old and it just blew my mind. I think at that point I only had access to what was on VH1 and top 40 radio and the stuff my parents played, which was all good stuff, but definitely not any indie rock music.
When I first heard that record I was blown away by the songwriting.
It’s one of those albums I can listen to start to finish every single time and I pick out something new I didn’t catch before and I’ve listened to that record a thousand times now. It was a big inspiration to start a band. It’s easily in my top 5 records ever.
You hear a song like “The Sound of Settling” and it’s so energetic and fun and you listen to the words and you’re just like, “Oh. Oh my gosh.” I like that. I like those records that make you think a little bit. It makes you take on a great journey, it feels cinematic in that way. Once you get “Transatlantacism” to “Passenger Seat,” you’re on the comedown from that big, climatic moment. It starts with such a bang.
