BYT NOTE: In the spirit of all the end of year wrap ups we have been trying to do here at BYT, we felt that one category could not be lest out: and that is DC STYLE. Because not only is it there but in 2006 it was there in Abundance.
We asked Morgan ( who designs muss line (myspace.com/muss_line),
runs local fashionblogs Panda Head ( http://www.pandahead.blogspot.com) and thrift store couture (http://www.thriftstorecouture.blogspot.com), and contributes fashion writing to the DCist) to sum it up for us)
cue the style
:
2006 was NOT the year i realized the district was legitimately stylish,
but this WAS the year i realized we needed to try to shut everyone up who was saying otherwise.
panda head came about in september and since then,
a couple hundred people a day are checking to see what DC is wearing
beyond the career seperates and sensible shoes we are so tragically known for.
this city represents every single level of fashion –
we’ve got fantastically talented designers
(el harto, loose lips, daisy lacy, superperfecthair, and de*nada, to namedrop just some of our unsung),
rad places to shop
(junction, the district line, meeps, pop, and nana – and those are just a few of the independents),
killer events to dress up for
(koolskool,styleistics, garutachi, rattler&cobrakisses/olympia shows tonight/tomorrow) and,
MOST IMPORTANTLY
,
countless bright young things who aren’t afraid to rock an individual style, no matter what that consists of.
as long as it consists a LITTLE BIT of you letting us photograph it.
WE’LL SEE YOU IN 07
