FINALLY IT’S THE WEEKEND! I don’t know about you guys, but I’m gonna be making a beeline to see Dunkirk, almost entirely because Harry Styles is in it, and I AM NOT SORRY. Apart from that I’m likely to be hella hibernating (is that how to use the word hella IDK) because fuck this heatwave // please hurry up and be fall. Before we talk about all your NON-hibernation options (of which there are many to choose from, and they include things like Colleen Green shows, Planned Parenthood comedy benefits and screenings of Showgirls, which is very obviously our GIF theme of the week), let’s first talk about what you may have missed on BYT this week if you were FUCKING MELTING LIKE ME:

  • Start off in Prospect Park, where Conor Oberst has a $46 show tonight!
  • Got $108+? You can also see Kendrick Lamar at Barclays Center!
  • There are also two solid ones at Mercury Lounge tonight, the first being a $12 Ages and Ages gig and the second being a $10-$12 Loose Buttons show!
  • Or hit up Bowery Ballroom for a $15 Guns N’ Hoses show!
  • More into Ride? Head to Brooklyn Steel for a $40 show.
  • Meanwhile, Re-TROS and Simon Doom will play Baby’s All Right for $10-$50!
  • Or if you’re poor dot com, just catch Buscabulla for free at MoMA!
  • Plus you can swing by the July edition of PAT w/ JD Samson, Amber Valentine and more at Union Pool. Free as always!

  • You can ALSO head to Brooklyn Bridge Park for a free outdoor screening of Casablanca.
  • But maybe it’s comedy you’re after, in which case get to the Bell House for a night w/ Kyle Ayers, Aparna Nancherla, Josh Gondelman, Nick Naney and MORE! Tickets are $12-$15.
  • Or head to UCB Chelsea for Julio Torres’ My Favorite Shapes! Tickets are just $7.
  • It’s also a new round of A Drinking Game at Littlefield, and this time the featured movie is Clue! Tickets are $10.
  • Plus there are $4 screenings of Adaptation and Being John Malkovich happening at Syndicated.
  • For gayer vibes, hit up IFC Center for a screening of Desert Hearts ft. bonus Q+A w/ director Donna Deitch and stars Patricia Charbonneau and Helen Shaver!
  • Or for STONER vibes, head to Nitehawk for a 4/20 in July Dude Double Feature ft. screenings of Dude Where’s My Car and The Big Lebowski!
  • Plus REI will be screening the bike-travel-coffee-centric documentary All the Places at its Soho flagship!

  • My top pick for tonight goes to Brooklyn Steel, where The Kills and Algiers have a $35 show.
  • You can also head to a $15 benefit for Syria at Mercury Lounge ft. Erin Willett, plus stick around for a $15-$20 RAQ show after that…
  • …or catch Thurston Moore Group at Bowery Ballroom for $20-$22…
  • …or pop by Baby’s All Right for a $10-$12 record release show from Denitia!
  • Meanwhile, Jewish Museum will host an $18 Kaki King gig!
  • AND Martin Rev’s at Rough Trade for $20.
  • Just wanna d-d-d-d-dance forever? Hit up Good Room for a $10-$15 Juan MacLean show.
  • You can also see AC Slater at Output for $30!

  • For starters, there’s a cat party called MEOWMANIA at Pine Box Rock Shop, so obviously you should probably stop by.
  • Tunes-wise, catch Sad13 fo’ FREE over at Union Pool!
  • You should also hit up Burger Records’ Beach Bash ft. performances by Sunflower Bean and MORE! Tickets are $15.
  • Speaking of beach shows, Muse will be at Jones Beach for $59+, too.
  • Plus see an early show from SWIMM at Mercury Lounge for $10-$12, and/or stick around for a late one from RAQ for $15-$20…
  • …or hit up Bowery Ballroom for a Jesse Malin and Juliana Hatfield show for $22-$25.
  • AND you can see The Shivers for $15 over at Rough Trade…

  • …or dance it up at Good Room w/ Holy Ghost for $10-$15!
  • Comedy-wise, head to Union Hall for Oh Such A Good Show Oh ft. Ana Fabrega, Joel Kim Booster, Emmy Blotnick and MORE for $10-$12.
  • Or if you’re after more cinematic vibes, head to Videology for $18 screenings of Death Proof ft. bonus shot of chartreuse!
  • (Plus obviously stick around for a $10 midnight screening of Showgirls, duh!)
  • More into Eternal Sunshine? Catch $4 screenings of it at Syndicated instead!
  • Or just head to IFC Center for a good old screening of BEETLEJUICE (BEETLEJUICE BEETLJUICE)!
  • Plus Koyaanisqatsi is screening at Nitehawk if you’re lookin’ to go heavy with your experimental brunch vibes!

  • If you somehow have $106 left over to blow from the weekend debauchery, probably catch Kendrick Lamar at Barclays Center again.
  • But since I very much doubt most of us have those kinds of funds, let’s dial it back w/ an equally good $12 Colleen Green show at Sunnyvale.
  • No money at all? Just get to Staten Island’s Corporal Thompson Park for a free GZA show instead!
  • For comedy, head to Union Hall for Julio Torres’ My Favorite Shapes! Tickets are $10 a pop.
  • Also most definitely hit up the Bell House for 50 Lady Bits: An Evening of Junk Jokes to support Planned Parenthood! Lineup features Lane Moore, Aparna Nancherla, Liza Treyger, Blair Socci, Ana Fabrega, Sasheer Zamata and SO MANY MORE, and tickets are just $15-$20.
