It’s cold AF outside here in NYC, but it’s about to feel a little springier, y’all! SUNDAY = TIME TO CHANGE YOUR CLOCKS DOT COM! This also means you’re gonna lose an hour of sleep due to ye olde leaping ahead, so plan your hangover recovery accordingly with the inevitable bonus AM struggle, okay? ‘Cause there’s a lot happening the next few days that could lead to hangovers of the physical and/or emotional variety, from International Women’s Day celebrations to screenings of Buffy the Vampire Slayer (in memory of Luke Perry but also IWD-appropriate AND our GIF theme) to Antoni Porowski, Robyn, the Armory Show and beyond!

Before we get into all of the details, here’s what you might’ve missed on BYT this week if you were too busy dramatically reenacting the “Rent” scene from RENT with all your neighbors because winter in NYC in March!

Thursday, March 7

  • Kicking things off in the arena of tunes, we’ve got Aurora, Sean McVerry and Talos taking over at Brooklyn Steel! Tickets are $25.
  • Meanwhile, Bellows will be at Rough Trade w/ support from Emily Reo and Onlyness! Tickets to that one are just $12.

  • Speaking of Lorelei Ramirez, you can also catch the opening reception of Ordinary Nightmare: *paintings and material things by Lorelei Ramirez* over at C’mon Everybody! (Free!)

  • In terms of tunes, you might want to consider selling off one of your slightly less vital organs on the black market in order to gain the necessary funds to see Robyn at MSG! (Probably worth it, TBH…)
  • But you can also always dial it back with another highly recommended (by me) show at Baby’s All Right, aka an evening w/ Sir Babygirl! Tickets are $10-$12 each.
  • If live band karaoke is more up your street, then head on over to Union Hall for exactly that! Tickets are $12-$15 each.

  • Personally I feel like we should have the best of all worlds at 001: A SPICY CELEBRATION; drinking, dancing, art by WOC+QTPOC creators and MORE, all for free w/ RSVP!

Sunday, March 10

  • For starters, swing by a Lady Parts Justice-presented sing-along/shout-along screening of Dirty Dancing! In addition to the movie, there’ll be plenty o’ activism going on in support of clinics, so snag a $15 ticket and GO!
  • You can also go talk about d-d-d-d-drugs at Central Library (Brooklyn Public Library), where Brooklyn Psychedelic Society is presenting God in a Bottle, a chat on ketamine and other dissociatives! Hamilton Morris (who you might recognize from Hamilton’s Pharmacopeia on Viceland) is one of the panelists, and tickets are $20-$30 each.
