WHY HAS THIS WEEK BEEN AN ETERNITY. I’m v. amped that it’s almost the weekend, partly because of the aforementioned dragging feeling, but mostly because the programming is SO GOOD. Imagine This Women’s International Film Festival is happening at the Wythe Hotel, a new Kusama exhibition is opening at David Zwirner, Elsewhere (Glasslands 2.0) is having its opening weekend with lots of good shows, there’s a goddamn Shania Twain edition of Party Like It’s 1999 (our GIF theme)…the list goes on and on. Before we dive into all of that, here’s what you may have missed on BYT this week:

  • …and Shout Out Louds will be at Bowery Ballroom for $25!
  • More into Elbow? Head to Terminal 5 for a $45 show!
  • Or if Tera Melos and Speedy Ortiz are more your jam, hit up Market Hotel for a $15 gig.
  • For cinematic vibes, head to Metrograph for a Carroll and Lena Dunham-introduced screening of Strange Days (ft. bonus Q+A) at 7pm!
  • You can also watch City of the Living Dead ft. bonus Q+A w/ composer Fabio Frizzi at Nitehawk at 7:30pm!

  • For starters, catch Overcoats at Bowery Ballroom for $18-$20!
  • There are also three good ones at Elsewhere – 1. a $12 show from Tomi, 2. a $20-$25 one from Slow Magic, 3. a $15-$25 Classixx DJ set!
  • More into vaporwave vibes? Blank Banshee’s at Brooklyn Bazaar for $12-$15!
  • But if you missed Balmorhea last night, catch another $15 performance at Littlefield this evening.
  • I’d also super recommend a $13-$15 LA Witch show at Saint Vitus!
  • You can also hit up Baby’s All Right for a $15 J.Views show!
  • Plus The Shins will be at Kings Theatre for $45-$65!
  • Or if you missed Shout Out Louds at Bowery Ballroom last night, you can catch ’em again for $25 at Music Hall of Williamsburg!

  • If RL Grime’s more your jam, hit up Terminal 5 for a $38-$45 show!
  • Or if you’re into And The Kids, head to Baby’s All Right for a $12-$14 show!
  • AND there is a FREE Shania Twain-themed Party Like It’s 1999 at the Bell House, so probably go cut a rug.
  • Cinema-wise, it’s the tenth annual Druid Underground Film Festival at Catland for just $10!
  • Plus Frances Ha is screening at Videology for $20 // each ticket comes w/ a bonus mini bottle of Belvedere to sip during the movie!
  • For spoken word, head to Strand Bookstore for a performance by Roxane Gay! It’ll feature live music by Aya Aziz and Ben Arthur, and tickets are $25.

  • Start off in Jackson Heights at the sixth annual Momo Crawl! Grab a passport for just $10 here.
  • Tunes-wise, start at Baby’s All Right, where a Puerto Rico fundraiser is happening starting at noon w/ Tall Juan and MORE! No cover, donate what you wish.
  • Meanwhile, Waxahatchee’s out at White Eagle Hall, so if you don’t mind a little NJ jaunt, then most definitely catch the $16-$18 show!
  • You can also catch a $10-$12 show from Stuyedeyed at Elsewhere…
  • …and The Clientele and Hoops will be at the Bell House for $16-$20!

  • Plus RL Grime’s at Terminal 5 again tonight for $38-$45.
  • It’s also a new Adventures of Danny & Mike Podcast at Union Hall ft. Danny Tamberelli and Mike Maronna IRL for all of you Pete & Pete fans out there! Tickets are $6-$8.
  • For movie vibes, hit up Videology for a $12 screening of the Drew Barrymore classic Ever After! #BREATHE #JUSTBREATHE
  • Or if you’re already hype on Christmas, you can watch an 11am screening of It’s A Wonderful Life over at the Film Forum!
