We’re back for a new round of NYC Best Weekday Bets! Each day will feature a top pick in the areas of 1. fitness (active), 2. comedy, 3. culture, 4. film, 5. food + drink, 6. free, 7. learning, 8. music and 9. staying in (because let’s face it, sometimes you just want to not leave your couch, especially when it continues to be cold AF outside).

Lots on the books this first couple of weekdays INCLUDING but not limited to classes on satanism, chats with Andrew Lloyd Webber, a screening of Norma Rae (our GIF theme) and MORE:

Monday, March 5

ACTIVE: Obviously head to COCO-MAT for drunk yoga! Suggested donation is $7, and the class comes with bonus free cocktails by Deep Eddy Vodka.

COMEDY: It’s a v. solid edition of Butterboy (with Maeve Higgins, Jo Firestone and Aparna Nancherla) at Littlefield tonight! Eliot Glazer, Nikki Glaser and more are on the bill, and tickets are just $10 a pop.

CULTURE: Get to Housing Works Bookstore tonight, where Hanif Abdurraqib will talk to Doreen St. Félix about his collection ‘They Can’t Kill Us Until They Kill Us’!

FILM: Totally plan on catching the Anthology Film Archive’s presentation of Ursula Biemann: Geomorphic Videos tonight // IT LOOKS TIGHT AF!

FOOD + DRINK: Head to 92Y for a lecture titled Women In Pizza! It’s led by a man, but hey, there’s free Kesté pizza involved in the $35 ticket since Giorgia Caporuscio will at least be in attendance to weigh in!

FREE: Into poetry? Catch a free evening of it at Ace Hotel w/ special guests Camonghne Felix, Shauna Barbosa, and Diana Marie Delgado!

LEARN: Andrew Lloyd Webber will be speaking at Town Hall tonight w/ special host Glenn Close, and while it’s not calculus, I’m sure you can learn a thing or two during ALW’s talk! Tickets are $47+.

MUSIC: Tunes-wise, be sure to swing by Baby’s All Right for a $20 Gaz Coombes (ex-Supergrass) gig!

STAY IN: I apologize that The Bachelor appears to be obligatory viewing. I don’t like it either, but I don’t make the rules.

Tuesday, March 6

ACTIVE: Tonight do some salty yoga, and also take a soundbath over at BREATHE Manhattan for max relaxation or whatever!

COMEDY: Nothing is more hilarious than wordplay, so obviously get to Littlefield for a new round of Punderdome 3000, the best competitive pun game around! Tickets are available at the door, and will run you $10.

CULTURE: SPRING/BREAK Art Show kicks off today, and I’d highly recommend check it out now through the 12th!

FILM: Get to Nitehawk for an International Women’s Day fundraiser screening of Norma Rae! Proceeds will go towards The Broad Room, a nonprofit group empowering young women to take political action.

FOOD + DRINK: Pop over to 92Y for The Flavor Matrix: The Art and Science of Pairing Ingredients w/ James Briscione! Tickets are $29 each.

FREE: Most definitely get to Metropolitan for a new round of Genre Reassignment (open mic for trans writers) ft. special guest Jordan Tierney!

LEARN: You can hit up the Alchemist’s Kitchen to go learn about satanism tonight! (Who doesn’t want that?!) Tickets are $20-$25.

MUSIC: Obviously catch Skyes at Union Pool tonight, you guys! Tickets are just $10 each.

STAY IN: The Green Mile is on AMC. I will never not recommend you to watch The Green Mile and cry.

Wednesday, March 7

ACTIVE: Get to Pearl Studios for a $20 DJ Khaled and Rihanna dance class! (They will obviously not be there IRL, but you will learn how to dance to their music, duh!)

COMEDY: Tonight catch Sam Taggart, Sasheer Zamata and MORE over at Union Hall! Tickets are $8-$10 a pop. (You can also catch Aparna Nancherla and tons of other comedians, writers and storytellers at Yeah She Did: Stories About Women You Should Know! Happening at Caveat, $15-$20 a ticket.)

CULTURE: I would be very much in the wrong not to suggest the obvious choice, aka Slate’s $20 Culture Gabfest at the Bell House! Chill w/ Stephen Metcalf, Dana Stevens + Julia Turner while they talk about today’s most interesting cultural happenings! (Although if you’ve got $150+, you might consider splashing out at the MoMA Armory Party, too…)

FILM: Pop over to Metrograph for a 9pm screening of Notes On Cities and Clothes tonight! WIM WENDERS RULES DOT COM!

FOOD + DRINK: Hit up Books Are Magic to hang w/ TASTE and Chloe Coscarelli (you know, the By Chloe girl) for free!

FREE: If you’re too broke to afford Metrograph, then get to Brooklyn Bazaar for a free screening of Oldboy!

LEARN: Hit up Littlefield for combo comedy and learning, you guys! That’s right, it’s a new round of Drunk Science (theme: MEMORY) ft. Joanna Hausmann, Fumi Abe and more! Tickets are just $5-$8 each.

MUSIC: Ezra Furman and Anna Burch stand out to me as the clear front-runners in tonight’s tunes options; they’ve got a $15-$17 show at Bowery Ballroom, and it should be REAL GOOD!
