Monday August 12

ACTIVE: If you like punk tunes ‘n jumpin’ rope, hit up a new round of Punk Rope by the River! Tickets are pay what you wish.

COMEDY: Swing by Union Hall for Ellen is The Only Ally ft. Rachel Kaly, Joe Castle Baker, Celeste Yim, Sara Hennessy and Pandora! Tickets are $10 each.

CULTURE: Get to House of Yes for New York Immersive Night, aka a special evening of talks and panels by immersive luminaries from 29Rooms (Refinery29), Baobab Studios, House of Yes, Giant Spoon ‘n more! Tickets are $22 each.

FILM: Hit up an advance screening of Where’d You Go, Bernadette followed by a Q&A with  co-writer/director Richard Linklater at The Times Center!

FOOD + DRINK: Make a beeline for Maharlika, where it’s Blackapino Night (ft. flavors of the Philippines and the Caribbean) this evening! Tickets are $75 and include beer pairings!

FREE: Head to Our Wicked Lady for a free rooftop screening of Labyrinth!

MUSIC: Tonight’s pick was real easy! Ya gotta catch Chela with Tomás Tomás at Baby’s All Right for $15!

STAY IN: Bachelor in Paradise is on and the only reason I care about it is because apparently one of the women is queer and gets a crush on another contestant. ONLY HERE FOR QU33R CONT3NT. (But I’ll probably just watch Antiques Roadshow anyway.)

Tuesday August 13
ACTIVE: It’s a new round of Yoga for Witches at Catland tonight! Tickets are $15, and it’s BYO mat.

COMEDY: CLEARLY head on over to Union Hall for a new round of The Lesbian Agenda w/ Sophie Santos! Tonight’s guests include Sydnee Washington, Kate Sisk, Celeste Yim and more, and tickets will run you $10-$12 a pop.

CULTURE: I mean, if I were you, I’d try my luck at getting on the waiting list for tickets to see Ryan Murphy in conversation with Billy Porter about Pose at 92Y! But a solid runner-up is Lit on Film 2 w/ Strand Books at Nitehawk Williamsburg, in which 10 original short films will bring literary favorites to life!

FILM: Richard Linklater AND Ginger Sledge will be at Lincoln Center for a talk on Where’d You Go, Bernadette! Note that ticketing is free but standby only, so be sure to get there early!

FOOD + DRINK: Hit up Nitehawk Prospect Park for the August edition of Spoons, Toons ‘n Booze After Dark, duh!

FREE: The Dark Crystal is screening for free out at Red Hook’s Valentino Pier tonight, hell yeah!

MUSIC: Scope Dinowalrus and New Myths over at Elsewhere’s Zone One tonight for just $10-$12!

ACTIVE: Kick things off hella early at a new round of Daybreaker, the early-morning yoga session and dance party! Tickets are $25+; it’s BYO mat, but there’s bonus free kombucha ‘n breakfast bites while supplies last.

COMEDY: Make it a Union Hall night, ’cause a new round of Outcast is on the agenda! Fareeha Khan will be joined by Lorelei Ramirez, Ana Fabrega, Usama Siddiquee, Eudora Peterson, Bryan Yang and more, and tickets are just $8 each!

CULTURE: Dance your face off at a new round of House of Vogue over at House of Yes! Tickets are $10 a pop.

FILM: If you’re in the mood for Robert Redford vibes, definitely get to Brooklyn Historical Society for These Films Cannot Be Trusted, Part Two: 3 Days of the Condor! Tickets are just $5 each.

FOOD + DRINK: Head to Archestratus for the latest edition of BookBook Club! The book up for discussion this time is There but for the by Ali Smith, there’ll be cheese ‘n wine, AND IT’S FREE TO ATTEND!

FREE: Two solid free outdoor movie screening options tonight – the first is Shaun of the Dead at Parklife, and the second is Life of Pi at Pier 1!

MUSIC: Another majorly easy decision re: tunes tonight! 110% catch Barrie, Sedona and Dar Disku at Rough Trade for $12-$15!

STAY IN: Mrs. Doubtfire is on WGN, which is basically the only thing that matters, but also worth noting that Mad Max: Fury Road is on Syfy and Star Wars: The Force Awakens is on TNT!
