We’re back for a new round of NYC Best Weekday Bets! Each day will feature a top pick in the areas of 1. fitness (active), 2. comedy, 3. culture, 4. film, 5. food + drink, 6. free, 7. music and 8. staying in (because let’s face it, sometimes you just want to not leave your couch). It’s a short week this time, but that doesn’t mean there isn’t plenty to do INCLUDING hanging out with Amber Tamblyn and Natalie Prass and Jacques Pepin, watching Girls Trip ft. bonus themed dinner and MORE:
Tuesday, May 29
ACTIVE: Wellvyl is hosting a rooftop sunset soundbath tonight, and tickets are $20 a pop! It’s BYO yoga mat, water, etc.
COMEDY: Mo Fry Pasic is setting up shop at Union Hall tonight, so go and LOL your face off for just $10!
CULTURE: Kick it with the inimitable Natalie Prass at Strand Books tonight! She’ll be there for a performance and conversation with Matthew E. White to celebrate her newest record. Admission is $22, the price of which includes a vinyl copy of The Future and The Past. (And if that ain’t your jam, just like, go hang out with Amber Tamblyn and Kaki King at Green-Wood Cemetery for $30.)
FILM: A Fistful of Dollars is screening today at Metrograph, so go and get you those Spaghetti Western vibes, y’all!
FOOD + DRINK: Catch a $70 screening of Girls Trip at Alamo Drafthouse ft. three-course New Orleans-themed meal to be served during the moving!
FREE: Kings Games is hosting a free demo on how to play Magic the Gathering tonight from 6pm until 9pm and SORRY BUT I THINK THAT’S REALLY AMAZING.
MUSIC: Provided you have the means, aka $49+, you can catch Kendrick Lamar, SZA, Schoolboy Q and more over at Madison Square Garden, so probably do that!
STAY IN: If you didn’t catch the Killing Eve season one finale on Sunday, obviously get caught up via BBC America on demand. IT. WAS. BANANAS. (And I need people to talk about it with me.)
Wednesday, May 30
ACTIVE: Couldn’t get enough soundbath vibes last night? There’s another one happening tonight in Tribeca for $30! GO FORTH AND RELAX DOT COM!
COMEDY: Whitmer Thomas and Mitra Jouhari are bringin’ you the LOLs for just $6-$8 via Shot On Film at Union Hall, PLUS you can stick around for $6-$10 Yardsale Comedy after that ft. Jo Firestone, John Reynolds and more!
CULTURE: Head to Caveat for the Underground Science Festival’s $14 opening night party! The festival is going to focus on science that’s been buried by racism and sexism.
FILM: Catch a $16 screening of The City of Lost Children at Nitehawk tonight! (BONUS: it’s gonna feature a live score!)
FOOD + DRINK: Jacques Pepin is going to be doing a demo in how to use your knives properly at ICC, and while I’m not personally so interested in technique, it’s pretty rad that you can just RSVP and then go chill in a room w/ JP. So like, I would recommend doing that if you can sneak out of work for a 3:30pm to 5pm session.
FREE: Seek out even MORE comedy vibes (free this time) at Our Wicked Lady, where a new round of Stevie (A Comedy Show) is happening! Tonight’s lineup includes Sasheer Zamata, Julio Torres, Anna Drezen and more!
MUSIC: Baby’s All Right has your one stop shopping for TWO dope shows tonight, the first being from Gordi, and the second being from Ash and Beverly! The former will run you $10-$12, while the latter is $20.
STAY IN: Elf is on CMT tonight for some reason, and I just really support the idea of a Christmas film being screened in May.
Thursday, May 31
