HAPPY FLIPPIN’ OCTOBER! We’re back for a new round of NYC Best Weekday Bets! Each day will feature a top pick in the areas of 1. fitness (active), 2. comedy, 3. culture, 4. film, 5. food + drink, 6. free, 7. music and 8. staying in (because let’s face it, sometimes you just want to not leave your couch). Get ready for two chances to catch Kip Berman performing as his new project The Natvral, multiple Mean Girls October 3rd celebrations and MORE // details as follows:

Monday, October 1

ACTIVE: Swing by Coco-Mat for a new round of Sputnik Yoga, which is donation-based and includes free cocktails from Owls Brew!

COMEDY: It’s a new round of Butterboy w/ Jo, Aparna and Maeve at Littlefield tonight! The lineup includes Hari Kondabolu, Dan Licata and more, and as always, tickets are just $10 a pop.

CULTURE: Head to the Green Building for FERN Talks & Eats! Tonight’s all-female panel will discuss the #MeToo movement and equity and inclusion as they apply to the restaurant business. Tickets are $40, and include a pre-talk reception ft. complimentary eats, beer, wine and hard cider.

FILM: If you’re feelin’ those Nic Cage vibes, get to Syndicated for a $4 screening of Raising Arizona, duh!

FOOD + DRINK: Jarlsberg is doing a pop-up at Sockerbit (the Swedish sweets shop), so if you’re in the mood to sample all of the free cheese, you should be sure to head on over there! (And if you post to social media using #JarlsbergNYC you apparently get a bonus free sweet treat!)

FREE: The one and only Kip Berman’s gonna perform as his new solo project The Natvral at Rough Trade tonight, and it’ll cost you all of $0!

MUSIC: In the mood to d-d-d-d-dance? Head on over to Brooklyn Steel for a $36+ Chromeo show!

STAY IN: The Nightmare Before Christmas AND Hocus Pocus are playing back to back on Freeform tonight, so you should obviously watch and settle into the October spirit!

Tuesday, October 2

ACTIVE: Take out some of your pent up frustrations with a MUY THAI ‘N KICKBOXIN’ CLASS! This one promises some free cocktails afterwards, ’cause #TEQUILATUESDAYS.

COMEDY: Some solid variety shows happening at UCB tonight – the first is So Into It (theme is witches, YASSSS), and second is WOKE AF ft. Jo Firestone, Ronny Chieng and more! Both are $9 a pop.

CULTURE: The Brooklyn Historical Society will host a $10 talk titled New York’s Gargoyles: The Immigrants Who Made Them and The Hunters Who Saved Them! Go forth and learn all of the architectural things!

FILM: If you’re on a budget, you’re in luck! Adaptation is screening at Syndicated tonight for just $4!

FOOD + DRINK: Archestratus is hosting another book club night, and this time the focus is how Parker Posey’s You’re on an Airplane relates to food! Free to attend, bonus wine and cheese will be served.

FREE: James Bridle and Atossa Araxia Abrahamian will be at Housing Works Bookstore Cafe to discuss New Dark Age, so if you’re in the mood to feel unsettled (for free, of course!) then this should be your go-to!

MUSIC: You’ve got another chance to see The Natvral tonight, this time performing with the inimitable Hatchie at Baby’s All Right! (Be sure to grab a ticket for $13-$15 ASAP since all Hatchie’s Warsaw gigs sold the fuck out last week, you don’t wanna be left out in the cold!)

STAY IN: Hocus Pocus is on Freeform from 6:30pm onward, so obviously get your work done and GO HOME EARLY to ensure you miss none of the glorious action.

Wednesday, October 3

ACTIVE: It’s a new round of Yoga For Witches at Catland tonight! Get those October vibes, gurl! Tickets are $15 a pop.

COMEDY: It’s a new round of Here & Queer: Laugh Till You’re An Ally at UCB Hell’s Kitchen at 11pm tonight, and tickets are just $7 each!

CULTURE: Bill Shapiro will be at Books Are Magic to talk about What We Keep w/ Naomi Wax, Kamilah Forbes, Molly Rosen Guy, Barnaby Harris and Anthony Weintraub tonight! The book sounds super interesting (tells the backstory of 150 objects belonging to everyone from the Shark Tank hosts to truckers to nuns) and the event is FREE!

FILM: IT’S OCTOBER 3rd AKA AARON SAMUELS DAY, YA NERDS! Obviously make a beeline for Videology, where Mean Girls is screening for $24, AND each ticket comes with a bonus strawberry daiquiri!

FOOD + DRINK: Speaking of Mean Girls, Bubba’s Bistro in Astoria is ALSO hopping on the October 3rd bandwagon w/ Mean Girls themed food and drink specials all day, plus if you wear pink you get a free “shooter”.

FREE: You should basically just hole up at Videology forever, because after Mean Girls there’s free Stranger Things bingo!

MUSIC: I usually try to give you just ONE option to simplify things, but I was mega-torn on today’s options – while I’d HIGHLY recommend catching Tove Styrke at LPR for $18-$22, I cannot not mention that it’s the Game of Thrones Live Concert Experience at Madison Square Garden tonight, so if you’re a huge nerd like me and happen to have $59+, that might be a worthy alternative.

STAY IN: I’m pretty much never going to tell you to watch anything other than AHS on Wednesdays from here on out, you guys.

Thursday, October 4
