I had a radio show that only played bands performing in the District. That show is super dead, so we’ve resurrected it (with way more words and far less radio) in the form of this column. Every day I’ll review a song from a band playing in D.C. that night. The rules are, 1. I can only listen to the song once and 2. I only have until the end of the song to finish my review.

Apparently this song was in a Zales commercial (at least that’s what I’ve gleaned from the Youtube comments), and I can totally see that. It’s not a bad thing. It’s just a very easily digestible song. It’s kind of sexy, but not too sexy. It’s really not bad at all. I mean it’s not super great. I would argue that maybe it’s a little too bland. I am into this big finish, but I love things that are ridiculous and bombastic. This is almost schmaltzy enough to be any song on the radio during Christmastime. Which is, again, not a bad thing. I’m having a great time over here.

You can see Sugar + the Hi-Lows tonight at Lincoln Theater. If you’ve already bought tickets that is.

Look, Aggressive Pedestrian is just an A+ name. I keep thinking about it and giggling as quietly as I possibly can to myself. It has great imagery. Anyway this song is very adorable. For a second I swear I heard them mention Tenley, as in Tenleytown, but I’m not positive it happened and there’s really no way for me to tell so I guess I’m just going to have to live with that question forever. I’m sure I’ll be fine. I really like the whistling. More songs should have whistling.

You can see Aggressive Pedestrian on Saturday at the Velvet Lounge.

There is not much going on this Sunday. I feel desperate. If you love pop punk and still go to Warped tour then you should go see Mayday Parade and all of the other silly bands playing with them. I don’t mean silly in a bad way. This is entirely me projecting because I am embarrassed of the music I used to listen to in high school. I have listened to a song from every single band playing this show and they all make me feel uncomfortably nostalgic. If you like any of these you will have a good time and should totally go. Instead of recommending a new band that I don’t know I am going to recommend you watch this Mayday Parade video. It doesn’t really hold up but I sure did like it. Sorry for the cop out.

You can see Mayday Parade, Real Friends, This Wild Life, As It Is at the Fillmore on Sunday.
