I had a radio show that only played bands performing in the District. That show is super dead, so we’ve resurrected it (with way more words and far less radio) in the form of this column. Every day I’ll review a song from a band playing in D.C. that night. The rules are, 1. I can only listen to the song once and 2. I only have until the end of the song to finish my review.

I’m already so into the fact that this band / person / whatever is named Space Jesus that I don’t even care if this song is trash. Actual garbage could come out of my laptop speakers and I’d still feel pretty good about this review because I am easily swayed and manipulated. This intro is ominous. There’s some real weird people braiding their hair together in the music video or something. Man this is just as good as I thought it would be. There’s something cooly demonic about these vocals. By cool I mean, chill. Like these aren’t The Exorcist kind of demons. These are some laidback demons that just want to hang out, watch some TV, and maybe posses you for a hot second so they can smoke some of your weed. I don’t really know what I just listened to (or watched), but I have to say, I enjoyed it immensely.

You can see Space Jesus tonight at U Street Music Hall tonight.
