Once upon a time, I had a radio show that only played bands currently performing in the District. That show is super dead, so we’ve resurrected it (with way more words and far less radio) in the form of this column. Every day I’ll review a song from a band playing in D.C. that night. The rules are, 1. I can only listen to the song once and 2. I only have until the end of the song to finish my review.
MIAMI HORROR – COLOURS IN THE SKY
This music video is very Eyes Wide Shut-esque. That’s not a bad thing, but it is weird. The music is… okay? I don’t know. I’m waiting to see where it goes. Okay, I like the chorus better, but I’m still not wild about it. It’s almost too happy. I don’t know. Something about this song is bothering me. The lyrics seem kind of dumb, but I don’t think it’s that. The video is cool. It sounds like someone is screaming in the background? There’s just something about it that’s not meshing well with me.
DANGERMUFFIN – THE RISING SOULS
The band opening for Dangermuffin is called Covered in Jam. I hope they always play together. It’s just too perfect. It’s so perfect it’s making me hungry. I could really use a muffin right now. This is very summery music. It’s pretty chill. I’m not in love with it, but I’m not hating it either. I’m more in love with their band name, to be honest. Hmm. I think the song is growing on me.
THE WEEPIES – WORLD SPINS MADLY ON
The music video is pretty adorable. Oh god. The lead singer sounds so young! Oh. I like that there are two people singing at once now. That’s nicer. I’m not super crazy about this song, but it’s definitely not the worst thing I’ve heard. It’s just kind of boring. Oh wow. It’s over already.
