I had a radio show that only played bands performing in the District. That show is super dead, so we’ve resurrected it (with way more words and far less radio) in the form of this column. Every day I’ll review a song from a band playing in D.C. that night. The rules are, 1. I can only listen to the song once and 2. I only have until the end of the song to finish my review.
KAREN JONAS – OKLAHOMA LOTTERY
I’d just like to start with the fact that this concert is free. So if you actually have nothing better to do, you could totally go to this show even if Karen sucks. The good news is that she doesn’t! She has a really seductive voice (I feel weird saying this but whatever) that almost reminds me of old Lana Del Rey. You know, like “On Our Way” and “Axl Rose Husband” Lana. Not “High By the Beach” Lana. There’s definitely a little country twang, but it’s not BBQ and cowboys country music. It’s more like the kind of country music you might recommend to your country music hating friends.
You can see Karen Jonas tonight at Mr. Henry’s.
