Once upon a time, I had a radio show that only played bands currently performing in the District. That show is super dead, so we’ve resurrected it (with way more words and far less radio) in the form of this column. Every day I’ll review a song from a band playing in D.C. that night. The rules are, 1. I can only listen to the song once and 2. I only have until the end of the song to finish my review.
GIRLS GUNS AND GLORY – ONLY ONE THING
That alliteration. Okay. This is some fun country music. There has already been a booze reference, so we’re on track for a good country song. Well. The chorus is a little creepy, but I’m not really surprised. Yeah this is fine. I’m sure this would be a fun concert.
You can see Girls Guns and Glory tonight at Hill Country Live.
BROCCOLI SAMURAI – HIGH GRADE
I obviously had to learn more about a band called Broccoli Samurai. Are all there songs about the importance of a well balanced diet? I sure hope so. So far I am bored. Hopefully that changes. This sounds like elevator music. Or when you go to a lame restaurant and they have boring background music that sounds like a slightly more polished version of elevator music. I’m so bored. I want my money back.
You can see Broccoli Samurai at Jammin Java tonight. Make sure to bring some leafy greens.
SISTER-EX – PRETTY FACE
The name Sister-Ex creeps me out because it sounds kind of incesty, you know? There is so much weird glow in this music video. I keep getting distracted by it. This is fine. I don’t think I would ever listen to this band again, but at least I’m not super bored. This music video is really bad though. Like terrible.
