Once upon a time, I had a radio show that only played bands currently performing in the District. That show is super dead, so we’ve resurrected it (with way more words and far less radio) in the form of this column. Every day I’ll review a song from a band playing in D.C. that night. The rules are, 1. I can only listen to the song once and 2. I only have until the end of the song to finish my review.

EMILY KING – DISTANCE

Creepy choir music is one of my favorite genres, so I’m into this… aw man. No more choir music. I mean, I guess this song is cool too. This is very reminiscent of Sara Bareilles. Specifically “Love on the Rocks”. I used to really like that song. It’s cool. I probably like this even more than that Sara Bareilles song. Yeah, this cool. Oh damn. These strings and the chanting are so awesome. This song is very palatable, but just weird enough and I am down with that.

You can see Emily King tonight at U Street Music Hall.
