I had a radio show that only played bands performing in the District. That show is super dead, so we’ve resurrected it (with way more words and far less radio) in the form of this column. Every day I’ll review a song from a band playing in D.C. that night. The rules are, 1. I can only listen to the song once and 2. I only have until the end of the song to finish my review.
CHRISTINE AND THE QUEENS – CHRISTINE
Everyone in this band is a good dancer. Unless those are backup dancers, in that case, they’ve hired some quality background dancers. This is entirely in French, so I have no idea what this song is about, but I think that makes it cooler. It could be about anything. It could be about Stephen King’s Christine. Actually. I’m just going to go with that. This is the best song about a killer car I’ve ever heard.
SUNFLOWER BEAN – 2013
This music video was posted to YouTube in 2014. So I guess this is like a retrospective? I don’t know. All I know is that this sounds pretty and I’m having a good time listening to it. It’s kind of psychedelic and kind of ethereal and I could definitely listen to this all day.
WATERS – WHAT’S REAL
I love Misterwives because they are so cute and so fun and they were the best part about Sweet Life, so I was hopeful that their opening act would also be cute and fun. I was kind of right. Waters is very fun and energetic. They are definitely not as cute as Misterwives, but c’mon have you seen Mandy Lee’s face? This is good and easy music to listen to and sometimes that’s all you need.
