Last week we ran our 9 Things To Talk About At Nats Games feature. We didn’t include Yards Park. People will be talking about Yards Park and all the new restaurants and bars and pop-ups and places-to-drink-that-aren’t-exactly-bars around Nationals Park. Officially opening on Opening Day, (well, Nats home opener opening day, Major League Baseball is greedy with Opening Day, trying to capitalize on it for entire home stands over ten days of baseball (that’s why teams play on the road for the first week of the season, stretching out Opening Day for nearly ten days)) Osteria Morini welcomes customers to their patio/bar/mini-restaurant/off shoot Morini Piccolo.
There aren’t many sure things in food. This is the closest thing to a sure thing.
Morini Piccolo will serve a very limited menu, offering a few items on the Osteria Morini menu. They’ll also offer frozen Negronis and gelato sandwiches. You know what D.C. loves? Frozen drinks.
You know what D.C. loves? Instagrammable ice cream sandwiches.
You know what D.C. loves? Drinking frozen drinks and eating ice cream sandwiches outside.
Morini Piccolo will be full whenever there’s a Nats game. It’s a great place to go if you’re meeting early. If it’s closer to game time, good luck getting a seat. It’s difficult to find a seat at almost every place before and after games. That’s why I end up at 100 Montaditos after most every game.
If you’re able to get a seat, skip the ice cream sandwich (it’s cute but I’d rather eat meat than diary any day) and order the octopus to share and the crostini with meatballs to hog. Both are better than anything you’ll find in the park (and the Nats have really solid ballpark food).
Morini Piccolo is located on the Boardwalk on the Southeast Waterfront. If you’re using Google Maps, put in Osteria Morini and keep walking towards the water. You’ll go down a few stairs near the wading pool and find it. Morini Piccolo will be openn from 11 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. Fridays and 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. or until Washington Nationals games end on Saturdays and Sundays and on Washington Nationals home game days.
